What does non-STEM research actually look like at Dartmouth?
Great question. Here at Dartmouth, we use the word "research" all the time.
Compared to my high school, Dartmouth offered so many new subjects I'd never even studied before. Here's how I found my double major!
During my junior winter, I took LING 54: Language Documentation while abroad in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, where we worked with the Satawalese language!
As I return to campus to start my junior spring, I can't help scrolling through my photos and seeing all of the amazing experiences our Linguistics DSP had in Hawaiʻi. Here are some highlights.
How are linguistics classes at Dartmouth?
So happy you asked! Linguistics at Dartmouth is a unique program situated between a ton of different disciplines, but that's exactly what makes it amazing.
Over the course of my sophomore fall, I had the opportunity to take a linguistics field methods class. During the course, we had the one-of-a-kind opportunity to study the Zophei language from Myanmar!
You'd think that being off-campus would mean there wouldn't be as much hands-on experience possible, but linguistics proved me wrong.
This is a post for my blog but also a letter to my future self so that I can remember the strategies I used to make my first term at Dartmouth a successful one.
