The loveliest part of living in the Upper Valley is exploring all the local spots, and no spot is more special than the farmers market in Norwich, Vermont. Located just a mile away from Dartmouth, this market is a great place to go on Saturday mornings with friends and family.
Open every Saturday from May to October from 9 am to 1 pm, the farmers market is a fixture in the lives of Dartmouth students and faculty. It's common to see friends, classmates, and professors at the market. In some ways, the market is an extension of Dartmouth's campus!
For parents' weekend, I knew my parents and I needed to explore the Norwich Farmers Market. Back home, I love going to Central Market in Lancaster City, PA, and I wanted to see what a Vermont market was like. Let me tell you, it was amazing!

After driving across the bridge that connects Hanover to Vermont, we reached the outdoor market and parked our car. Upon entering the market square, my dad's eye went straight to a chocolate croissant. He immediately bought and ate it, finding it delicious.
From there, we moved on to a stand selling pumpkins. My favorite part of the fall season is picking out pumpkins and decorating my house with them. I just knew I had to buy a little pumpkin for my dorm room to continue the tradition. After careful consideration, I picked a mini white pumpkin, which only cost $1!

While I was looking at the pumpkins, my parents discovered a stand selling veggie samosas, a staple in our vegetarian household. They bought three orders, and we ate them while exploring the rest of the market.
Part of this exploration led us to the center of the square, where a local musician was playing. All around, families sat listening to the music and taking in the beautiful fall day. The market, while a great place for food and local treasures, is also a great place to relax and feel a sense of community.
After we finished eating, my mom explored the different flower vendors. She is an avid gardener and loves flowers. The ones at the market were so pretty and colorful. She ended up buying orange flowers to put on our mantle pack home—perfect for fall decor!

Overall, my exploration of the Norwich Farmers Marketwas amazing. All the pumpkins, flowers, and baked goods were amazing. There were so many great vendors and products, from maple syrup to grilled cheese sandwiches to fresh produce.
It was so wonderful to explore the farmers market with my parents. I can't wait to go again and buy more pumpkins!
As I begin my junior year, I feel my time at Dartmouth shifting from exploration to deeper focus, with my studies, experiences, and passions beginning to take clear shape.
As a senior now, I've experienced and learned more about myself and about life than I ever anticipated I could. With that, I want to reflect on Dartmouth's unique qualities, from its rural setting to the Greek Life presence to the quarter system!
