Class Recommendations
At Dartmouth, everyone has to take classes in all different disciplines as part of our distributive requirement. I thought it would be super useful to give some suggestions on some courses that both I and my friends have taken that have been incredible!
LING 1 Introductory Linguistics: For the first class, I have to recommend LING 1 Introductory Linguistics I took this class my first fall, and it was one of the best classes I have taken here! It fulfills the QDS (Quantitative or Deductive Science) requirement, and it is incredibly interesting. If you enjoy mathematical and deductive reasoning, this is the course for you!
PHIL 01.08 The Philosophy of Time and Time Travel: Next is PHIL 01.08. This class is simply mind-blowing. I have never learned content so interesting and it really makes you think about topics beyond the typical subjects you learn at school. This satisfies the TMV (Thought, Meaning, and Value) requirement, which is one of the harder requirements to fulfill!

SPAN 9 Culture and Conversation: SPAN 9, Advanced Spanish Language, allows many students to fulfil their language requirement. This class is just phenomenal. The small size (16 people!) really makes the class so unique and tight-knit. I was able to develop my Spanish-speaking skills significantly and our class was super close by the end of the term!

COSC 1 Introduction to Programming and Computation: Although I have not taken COSC 1, I have heard incredible things about this class. There is certainly an abundance of work, but the amount of concepts you learn makes this class incredibly worth it! It fulfills a TLA (Technology or Applied Sciences) distributive, which allows people to get their lab credit. This course serves as a prerequisite for many majors, so it is certainly worth checking out!
FILM 50.04 Video Games and the Meaning of Life: And finally, FILM 50.04. I have not taken this class, but I know many that have and they said that this class is incredible. It fulfills both the CI (Culture and Identity) and TMV requirements, which are some of the hardest ones to satisfy. This class is incredibly unique and interesting, and if you're looking for something that offers great distributives, take it!
As you can see, Dartmouth offers some amazing classes in so many disciplines. This list is not at all exhaustive, but it allows for a glimpse into the academics here at Dartmouth!
