a man and a woman stand speaking together

The first introduction I had to Dartmouth was reading excerpts from On the Brink by Former United States Secretary of Treasury Hank Paulson '68. I read about his early days at Dartmouth on the football team to his tenure as Goldman Sachs CEO. At Dartmouth, Sec. Paulson was an English major, and because I also wanted a humanities-focused education with a Classics major, he inspired me to learn more about Dartmouth! Flash forward to my sophomore year, I had the honor of interviewing Sec. Paulson for a Q&A for The Dartmouth! Sec. Paulson is one of many notable Dartmouth alumni who have made large impacts on the world. Here are just a few of them!

Mindy Kaling '01 is a famous actress whose comedic genius has led to her creating many popular shows! She started as a fellow Classics major, but she fatefully switched her major to Theatre. She was also a member of the all-female acapella group, The Rockapellas. I know an alumnus who was friends with Kaling, who was apparently always the funniest person in the room!

Jake Tapper '91 is the lead Washington anchor for CNN and was a History major during his time at Dartmouth. He is on the Board of Trustees and has written and helped The Dartmouth newspaper. The header picture is one that my mom took of him at the Hanover Inn!

At Dartmouth, Laura Ingraham '85 was an English and Russian major. Ingraham was the Editor-in-Chief of The Dartmouth Review newspaper. Ingraham currently is the host of the Ingraham Angle on Fox News.

If you've watched Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, Bridgerton, or Inventing Anna, you know Shonda Rhimes '91 is a prolific producer and screenwriter. At Dartmouth, she was an English literature with creative writing major who was engaged with the Black Underground Theatre and Arts Association. Rhimes is also currently on the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodore Geisel '25 (a fellow '25 in a different century!), was an English major and the Editor-in-Chief of The Jack-O-Lantern, a humorous magazine that is still published! If the name Geisel sounds familiar, it's because his family donated the money for the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine. I always wonder if he got the inspiration from The Lorax from Dartmouth's tree-lined campus.

Some notable mentions: Connie Britton '89, Rachel Dratch '88, David Harbour '97, and Meryl Streep (who did an exchange term at Dartmouth)
