From Spin to Success: A Guide to Laundry at Dartmouth
The basements of residential halls are filled with washers, dryers, and an occasional stray sock or two. Luckily, during the summer of 2023, Dartmouth replaced its old machines with new, functional ones and made laundry free. Laundry just got easier!
To start, visit a website called Laundry Connect to see which machines in any given building are unoccupied. The busiest time for laundry tends to be Sunday evenings, so try to do my laundry on weekday afternoons when you don't have class. The machine itself is pretty simple: just put your detergent and clothes in the washer, press the appropriate buttons (Light, Medium, or Heavy; Normal, Perm Press, or Delicates/Bulky; Hot, Warm, or Cold), close the door, and hit Start! The machine will then show how much time remains until your laundry is over, which you can use to set a timer on your phone to pick up your laundry on time.
Once the timer goes off and you make the trek down to the basement (or the elevator ride, should your dorm have one), move all your clothes to your nearest dryer! Then press the appropriate buttons that determine the heat level (High Temp, Med Temp, Low Temp, Delicates, No Heat), close the door, hit Start, and set another timer! Depending on the building and the functionality of the machine, you may need to go through two cycles of the dryer to completely dry any clothes. But with a little planning, laundry at Dartmouth is straightforward. Nothing beats having clean clothes ready for the week ahead!
