Whether it be briskly walking across the Green to a class in Dartmouth Hall or hearing the Baker Tower bells ring the alma mater every night at 6:00 PM, there are certain small joys that shape my day-to-day life as a Dartmouth student. This Thanksgiving, I couldn't help but reflect on how these seemingly mundane aspects of Dartmouth have shaped my experience, and it dawned on me that you, my dear readers, may want a glimpse of such a thing.

One important resource that Dartmouth has provided me that was crucial for my academics is Greenprint, which refers to a system of Dartmouth printers that can be found in various locations around campus. Each term, the college allocates $75 per student just for the purpose of printing on these Greenprint printers. With a valid ID, you are able to print documents on their devices to the queue, then walk up to any Greenprint printer on campus to print said document however you would like—black and white, color, single-sided, or double-sided. The likelihood of using all $75 is extremely low; for reference, I have probably printed around 200 pages of readings and documents this term and have used around $45 out of the $75 allocated for printing. Some things I have printed include:

  • Scholarly articles and journals
  • Class readings
  • Posters of my artwork
  • Flyers
  • Forms and other documents

What I didn't realize until a lot more recently, however, is that all Greenprint machines come with a scanner. Access works the same—swipe your Dartmouth ID, place the document you want scanned, and click a button to start scanning a document to your inbox, Google Drive, or Dropbox. It's as simple as that!
