Hi everyone! I'm Kabir, an international member of the class of '26, from New Delhi, India. I'm thinking of majoring in Psychology and Film & Media Studies. Outside the classroom, I enjoy watching movies, going on hikes, hanging out with my friends, and going on runs (if you see me on the streets of Hanover, say hi!) In the short while I've been here, I've come to love Dartmouth, so if you're interested in what I have to say, stick around! This should (hopefully) be fun :)
My Writing 5 class was definitely my favorite class this term — it opened my eyes to the realities of the food industry, strengthened my skills as a writer, and helped me make a ton of new friends.
My seminar was possibly the best class I've taken so far at Dartmouth. I learned about the importance of free speech and journalists in a democratic society, and how those rights to freedom are being stripped everywhere, all the time.
I've loved Cognitive Psychology as a class so far, especially because of the cool demos that the professor uses to illustrate every type of phenomena we learn about. From illusions to memory tests, it's so cool to see how the human psyche can be tricked so very easily.
Gile Mountain, located in Norwich, is the perfect hike for any time of day. It's not strenuous, which makes it perfect for unwinding with friends. Its views are absolutely beautiful and it only takes a half hour to reach the fire tower, where you can get great views of New Hampshire and Vermont! My favorite time to do the hike is in the fall, when the leaves look absolutely unreal.
2. Drive through Vermont/New Hampshire!
My favorite thing to do on a lazy Sunday is pile in a car with my friends and visit cool spots 45-60 minutes away from Hanover. This particular area of the Upper Valley is incredibly diverse and interesting. Just last week, we visited Montpelier, which is the capital of Vermont. If you're a fan of long drives and scenic views, I trust that you'll enjoy this activity.
3. Go Mini-Golfing
There is a really fun mini-golf centre/driving range in West Lebanon, which is the next town over from Hanover. I've been there countless times with friends, and though my mini-golfing skills haven't gotten much better, it's a great place to get your mind off work. Bonus: there's a fantastic ice cream shop right next to the mini golf centre, which is always a nice treat after a long round.
4. Visit the Quechee Gorge
The deepest gorge in Vermont is only fifteen minutes away from Dartmouth, which makes it a great weekend activity. There's a short mile-long trail that you can get on, and 30 minutes later, you'll find yourself at the Gorge, which is really beautiful and if you go early enough, not too crowded. Afterwards, I like to go get food in Quechee which has some great spots too.

If you're considering applying to/accepting an offer to study at Dartmouth, I think this is a nice reminder that while we're definitely in a rural location, there's a very diverse, accessible array of options for any kind of person. If you're ever around town, I'd definitely check out these activities or find new ones: there's something fun for everyone.

The Sri Lankan New Year falls on the 13th and 14th of April, a time for plenty of celebrations and family time. At Dartmouth, I keep these traditions with my friends and celebrate a part of home every year!
