A tasty selection of tacos

Although Dartmouth's dining plan will have all of your meals covered, it's nice to change things up every once in a while and eat out in town. There are plenty of restaurants just a walk away from campus in Hanover's Main Street. If you have access to a car, you can also check out options in Lebanon, West Lebanon, and White River Junction (WRJ) — all of which are only about 15 minutes away! So, without further ado, here are my favorite restaurants in the Upper Valley.

1. Tacos y Tequila (Hanover)

As the name suggests, this restaurant has great tacos (and great tequila). Other highlights from the menu include the chicken fajitas and chimichangas, which are both served in large portions. It's just a five minute walk from the Green, so there's no need to drive!

2. Big Fatty's BBQ (WRJ)

If you're in the mood for some traditional BBQ, check out Big Fatty's! They have all types of seasoned meat that you can have on its own, as a burger, or on a sandwich. What I like most about this restaurant, besides the food, is the atmosphere. There are communal rustic wooden tables on the inside, and a shaded set up on the porch for when the weather's warm and sunny. Plus, there's live music on weekends!

3. Jesse's Steakhouse (Hanover)

Jesse's is a bit pricier than most places in the area, but if you're looking for a nice, formal, sit-down meal, I highly recommend it. The inside of the restaurant is very rustic, resembling a large cabin in the woods. And when the weather allows, outdoor seating is a great choice. It is located a five minute drive from campus, and is a great place to show your family on visits.

4. Village Pizza (Lebanon)

Village Pizza is great for when you're in the mood for a quick bite. Their pizza is good but, in my opinion, their sandwiches are better. If you visit, try out their meatball sub.

5. Koto Japanese Steakhouse (West Lebanon)

And last but not least, if you're looking for both food and entertainment, Koto's the right place. I highly recommend their shrimp fried rice and chicken teriyaki lunch box. Besides that, they are known for their great customer service and cozy atmosphere. It's a little far from campus, but it's always worth the drive.
