Why We Rushed
Greek life has been present on the Dartmouth campus since 1842. Between national and local Greek organizations, many students are affiliated during their four years in Hanover. This week, I asked some of my sisters of Alpha Phi why they decided to rush and join Greek life at Dartmouth.

Connection
I didn't feel like I was connecting with people on campus at first, and wanted to try to meet people who I would fit in with. I was seriously considering transferring before rush and then after joining a sorority, I fell in love with Dartmouth and found people I just clicked with. -Jaclyn '19

New Friends
I rushed because I wanted to meet empowered upper class women and make new friends. It is a really great way to just get to know other women and get a better idea of who you are and your interests by what sticks out to you in the houses that you visit! -Julia '20

Another Outlet
Being a varsity athlete, I spend a lot of time with my teammates. As much as I love competing and being with them, joining a sorority presented an opportunity for me to expand my social circle and my support network. I love to have another outlet and group of people that support me on and off the field, and a lot of my sisters will come to my games. -Selena '20

Home Away From Home
I really wanted a way to meet people who I know I will be able to connect with for the rest of my life. As an international student, joining a national sorority has given me a network of incredible women all across the United States. Even if I return home after graduation, I know that I will always be able to depend on my sorority if I find myself back in America. -Caroline '18

Diversifying Friendships
I chose to rush sophomore year because I was on a sports team, but I really wanted to expand my social circle to meet girls from different backgrounds and social groups. This ended up working out really well for me, and I was able to become great friends with girls that I would have never met otherwise. I'm an engineering major who does research at DHMC and one of my best friends, who I met through my sorority, is an English major who is an editor at the D. I know that I would have never met her otherwise. -Jul '20

Empowerment
I rushed because I feel like sometimes there is a lack of female presence in aspects of my life, so the concept of a female dominated social space especially appealed to me. I love the idea of being surrounded by women who I could simultaneously empower and be inspired by! -Shae '20
