Class in Review: Govt 3
Welcome back to my series! I hope that you have been enjoying learning about some classes that are offered here at Dartmouth. For this week's course, I will be talking about GOVT 3 (The American Political System). This class can serve as a course for both the Government major and minor, as well as a prerequisite for the Quantitative Social Science (QSS) major. It fulfils both the Social Science (SOC) distributive as well as the Western Culture requirement.
I took this class with Professor Mahoney, the Executive Director of the Rockefeller Center (also known as Rocky). There were about 30 students in the course, so there were both lectures and discussions that took place! We talked all about the American government, ranging from the history to the inner workings of the government. Although there was a ton of information regarding our government, Professor Mahoney ensured that we understood the key concepts as clearly as possible. She was very knowledgeable about the topics we discussed, and was always willing to meet outside of class to discuss both our assignments as well as our passions about the government.

In terms of the assignments we had for class, we had textbook readings for each class, a midterm, final, an analysis of an opinion piece about government, an assignment where we had to write our own opinion piece, and an assignment where you could choose from various options (such as writing a letter to a congressperson). All of these assignments were meant to strengthen our knowledge about the American government, and Professor Mahoney was always willing to assist with them in any way. As long as you study the term sheet that she gave us before the exams, the exams went pretty smoothly. In general, the assignments were not terribly difficult or time consuming, which I appreciated!

That's all for now, see you next week!
