Oh, the Places I've Been!
While Hanover might be a peaceful and secluded town, I've learned that the outside world isn't so far away. Not only does the outside world frequently visit us (through lectures, performances, etc.), but I've personally visited the outside world pretty regularly during my time here.
Since my activities demand lots of travel, venturing out of Hanover has been a large part of my Dartmouth experience. I've had the chance to explore the Upper Valley, the East Coast, and even Canada since I arrived! And I'm sure this list will grow over the next three years here.
Dartmouth has taken me all over the map. Here are some of the destinations:
- No. 1
Okay, this one's obvious. But as the lovely home of Dartmouth, Hanover is definitely a destination that should be listed here!
- No. 2
For Trips, I spent three days sailing on Mascoma Lake with a few other incoming freshmen (trippees). I've never really sailed before, or been around a lake for an extended period of time for that matter, so this was a new experience (and location) for me.
- No. 3
Boston is only two hours from Hanover, and some terms I've visited every other week (usually for debate or fencing competitions). I always try and stop at a museum if I have the time (or scout out some seafood)!
- No. 4
The Canadian border is pretty close (around 2 hours), so I've gotten to drive up to Montreal with my friends multiple times to visit a different country as a midterm break.
- No. 5
On a Wall
Okay, this isn't exactly a new location, but I'd never really climbed a rock wall before last spring, when I discovered Dartmouth's climbing gym.
- No. 6
For Nationals, the fencing team travelled to Knoxville to compete during the middle of my spring term.
- No. 7
Top of the Podium
(continued from no. 6)
... and yes we won!
- No. 8
New York City, NY
Coming from the Western part of the United States, I imagine large cities to be a bit more spread apart than they are over in the East. New York City is so much closer than I thought! I visited for a debate tournament (and also once over an interim with some friends).
- No. 9
NorthAms (the North American Debating Championship) was in Toronto last spring, so we drove up to compete. We had lots of time to explore the city and eat amazing food.
- No. 10
Top of Mt. Cardigan
I'm not the crunchiest of people, but I've been meaning to venture out for a day since I got here because campus is surrounded by hiking trails. This summer, I finally went on a hike! I hiked to the summit of Mt. Cardigan with a couple of friends.
