Homecoming 2025: Bonfire-less Edition
Homecoming Weekend is a time when current students and alumni gather on campus to showcase school spirit and celebrate our love for dear old Dartmouth. The highlight of Homecoming Weekend is the large bonfire at the middle of the Green, built by and celebrating the incoming class of students. They then walk a lap around the bonfire while current students and alumni cheer them on. Unfortunately, the towering flames that I always enjoyed could not happen this year due to a state-wide ban on open fires (thanks, New Hampshire drought).
Nevertheless, the glow of the Dartmouth spirit permeated throughout the Green. In lieu of a bonfire, there was a spectacular laser show, with beams of light piercing through the night sky that I could see on my walk to the Green! As I approached, the lights grew brighter, and the music performed by student DJs of the classes of 2029 and 2028 louder.

Following the show at the Green, I headed over to Collis Porch to watch student band Day Drooler perform some original songs. There was also free popcorn from Mac's Maple, which I happily enjoyed.

The best part of Homecoming Weekend, in my opinion, was catching up with the younger alumni who came to campus and celebrated with us. It was great getting to catch up with some of my '25 friends and hear about what their life has been like post-grad! I had actually seen one '25 walking to Collis on my way from class, and was so surprised that I thought I was seeing things! But no, I wasn't; she did come to campus, and we chatted for a bit after the laser show.
This year's Homecoming may have been more laid-back than in previous years, but our Dartmouth spirit remained strong. I can't wait for Homecoming to resume in all its glory next year!
