6 Favourite Sports Games I Went to This Fall
With so many of the Big Green athletic teams competing this term, it's hard to decide which games and matches to attend each weekend. I've compiled a list of the top 6 home games I've been to, so far, this fall:
- No. 1
Football vs. Holy Cross
An incredible overtime win in football’s home-opener, the Big Green took down Holy Cross 27-26. “It was a great game because we never gave up and we never stopped believing we could win,” said offensive lineman, Phil Berton ’19. His teammate, Gage Guerra, added that “the win against Holy Cross felt so great because we battled through adversity against a high quality team. It was awesome to win in front of the fans in our home opener.” This was a fun game to be at because of the atmosphere of the student section!
- No. 2
Women’s Volleyball vs. Columbia
The volleyball team’s Ivy League home-opener resulted in a 3-0 win over Columbia. The Big Green played incredible defence in front of a supportive crowd at Leede Arena. Carly Tower ’20 said that “it was a great game because we really played together as a team and came out strong. The fan support was incredible and the atmosphere in Leede Arena was eletric."
- No. 3
Men’s Hockey vs. Windsor
The men’s hockey team played an exhibition game against the University of Windsor from Canada. They came away with a 2-1 win. Clay Han ’20, who plays defence, was excited about the game. He commented that, “For our first game against another team, I thought we were able to make a lot of good plays both offensively and defensively. I believe that from our goalies, to our defence, and all the way up to our forwards, we were able to play a solid 60 minutes of hockey.”
- No. 4
Women’s Rugby vs. Army
Although the Rugby team played Army last year, they were much better prepared this season. Coming off of an awesome win against Quinnipiac, the team was ready for Army. Changing their game plan, they “let it fly” and opened up on the wings. “That gave us an advantage over them and it was super fun rugby to play and watch all around. Working off that game though, we got ranked #1 but we know to work like we are #2 and never let up,” said an excited Jules Wheaton ’19, who plays prop.

Women’s Soccer vs. Quinnipiac:
Coming out with great momentum, the Big Green scored 4 goals in the first half alone. Not only was there a great crowd in the stands, “the team was dominating all over the field. It was early in the season, so it was nice to see things begin to click,” added team member Hayley Soriano ’20.
- No. 6
Football vs. Yale
In front of a packed Memorial Field, this year’s Homecoming football game did not disappoint. Down 24-7 at halftime, the Big Green had a lot of work to do to come back. However, the team fought back in front of an excited crowd of students, family and alumni. Team captain, Jack Heneghan ’18, commented that, “It’s exciting to have a lot of fans out during Homecoming and we are grateful for the support.” Teammate, Isaiah Swann ’20, added, “It was one of the best games I have ever been apart of. We did what we needed to do defensively in the second half to win the game and the offence came through with big plays to finish them off.”
