Hi! I'm Jon Scott, a '19 from Detroit, Michigan. Unfortunately, my college choice didn't allow me to escape the cold and snow but did increase my collection of snowy, wintertime photos. My path to Dartmouth is actually a very interesting story. I had my mind set on another college and was certain I was going to go there. I felt I didn't need to apply anywhere else, but my parents told me otherwise.  In the fall of my senior year, an enthusiastic admissions officer came to my school and made Dartmouth and the D-Plan sound like the best academic schedule ever, so I decided to apply. On the literal last day I could make my decision , I decided I didn't want to go to the school I was certain I was going to attend and decided to come to Dartmouth. Today, I'm convinced I made the right decision. Two important takeaways of the story: listen to your parents and make quick last-minute decisions. Here at Dartmouth, I'm both a Government and Film and Media Studies major. The two seem distinctly different, but are actually somewhat related in that they require critical thinking and acute analysis. Outside of academics, I'm a member of the Heavyweight Crew Team, Treasurer of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and a mentor for the First-Year Student Enrichment Program (FYSEP). So basically I have no free time--but those close to me know I like it that way. Luckily for me, Dartmouth has plenty of voluntary organizations and activities that will keep students busy outside the classroom.

As you may have guessed, I love movies. A course I took with a visiting professor over Sophomore Summer introduced me to amazing films from the 1930s and 40s. Now I spend my non-existent free-time watching classic films from this era. One of my other interest is, you guessed it: politics! Basically, this means I'm constantly reading the Washington Post or New York Times throughout the day. I guess I took the whole "major in what interests you" thing to heart. On a lighter note, I also enjoy music, sports, clothing, and basically anything that has to do with pop culture. I have also started DJ-ing (by force, but it's lit). Though Hanover is an incredible place that is far from any large city,  I still consider myself a city person and like to keep up with urban trends. I'm super excited to share my Dartmouth experience and post some awesome stories and pictures!
